Molasses Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar plus extra for coating
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup molasses

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt together.  Set aside.
  • In bowl of stand mixer, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg.
  • Add water and molasses and mix to combine.
  • Add in flour mixture in 2 additions.
  • Add a 1/4 cup of sugar to a small bowl.
  • Roll dough into 1 inch balls and coat in sugar.
  • Place cookies on parchment lined cookie sheet and press to slightly flatten.
  • Bake 8-10 minutes.  Allow cookies to cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
