This creamy, smooth keto hot chocolate recipe takes less than 5 minutes to make and will satisfy your sweet tooth.

We started eating a modified ketogenic diet over 2 years ago.  And we’ve been mostly keto for about a year or so (we incorporated some dairy back into our diets).  I eat a few more carbs than my husband, as that seems to work better for me, but we mostly stick to vegetables, healthy fat and protein.

I find that more and more people are embracing the ketogenic lifestyle and seeing the benefit of eating more healthy fat in their daily life. Not only for weight loss, but for things like cognitive brain function, better sleep and more energy.  Our bodies need fat to function well (especially our brains), and I love that people are finally coming to realize that.

One of the first keto recipes I tried was keto coffee (or Bulletproof coffee).  My husband made it for me about a month after he’d started the keto diet.  He replaced his breakfast with keto coffee and it kept him full well through lunch.  When you eat a carb-heavy breakfast it spikes your blood sugar, giving you a quick burst of energy.  But soon after you crash and can be hungry and tired.  Replacing that high-carb breakfast with a high fat meal or drink will keep your blood sugar level and stave off any cravings that you may experience.

I’ll be honest.  At first I wasn’t a huge fan of the keto coffee, so I asked if there was a way to get the same benefits of keto coffee with keto hot cocoa.  This creamy, smooth keto hot chocolate recipe takes less than 5 minutes to make and will satisfy your sweet tooth.

So we made this keto hot chocolate recipe.  There are a few modifications you can make, which I explain in the note section of the recipe.  Either way, it’s low-carb, chocolatey and delicious.

The recipe takes 5 minutes or less to make.  You add all the ingredients, then add hot water, blend until frothy, and drink up.  It’s so smooth and has the consistency of a latte.  Make sure not to add too much cocoa powder; but if you do you can add a little more stevia to sweeten it up.

We use Bulletproof’s Brain Octane for our MCT oil.  It has some amazing cognitive benefits.  Viva Naturals is one of our favorite brands organic cacao powders.  And Kerrygold grass-fed butter is the only butter we use on our house.

Side note: A lot of people call it Bulletproof coffee or Bulletproof hot chocolate.  But did you know that Bulletproof is the name of a brand?  Bulletproof was the first company to put out a keto-style coffee commercially, and people started calling any coffee with butter and/or MCT oil “Bulletproof coffee.” Just a little tidbit of information for you.  😉 Either way, this bulletproof-like hot chocolate is sure tasty.

Ooh, I bet this is so good! I never would’ve thought to try and make hot chocolate any other way than with milk and chocolate powder, but this is genius! Glad you found a way to still enjoy hot chocolate!
