Happy New Year friends! I honestly was not ready to come back from vacation. Kellen gets a week off between Christmas and New Years, and it’s always bitter sweet when he has to go back to work. But we made the most of our last day off yesterday and went sledding up by Mt. Rainier. It was EJ’s first time on a sled and we had so much fun. I can’t wait for more sledding adventures this winter, but our next trip up to the mountains will be for some skiing! I am so ready to ski while not pregnant! Whoop! Whoop!
I shared my goals for 2017 last week, and in that post I shared that I plan to continue my monthly goals into this year. If you didn’t know by now, I’m big on goal setting. Even if I don’t succeed at every goal I set, I feel better having written them down. It keeps me motivated. If I didn’t set goals for myself I’d probably watch TV every single night and this blog would cease to exist. I need that extra motivation, ya know?
So here’s a review of how I did on my December goals.
Slow down // Check! This last week we did very little besides spend time with friends and family and it was amazing! We cleaned the house, de-cluttered a bit and just hung out. It was so nice and much needed after Kellen traveling so much at the end of the year.
Set a good work schedule // Eh. I started off with great intentions on this one, setting timers for myself during my work time and getting on the computer most nights. And then I just….stopped. I don’t know why; maybe because it was December and I had other things on my mind. But with the new year I’m going to focus on this once more and really try to be intentional with my time again.
Do at least 3 things holiday related // We did 2 holiday things as a family. Having family here the week before Christmas sort of threw a wrench in our holiday plans (but it was fun, don’t get me wrong). We drove around and looked at lights, and took the kids to zoolights. Although you could consider the next one a 3rd.
Take A to the Nutcracker // Yes! My girlfriend and I took our girls and they had the best time. This is going to be an annual tradition from here on out.
And now for January’s goals!
Set a new workout schedule // My workouts slacked in December, not gonna lie. What was usually a 30 minute workout turned into 15-20 minutes, which is not enough for me to see the results I want. This was mainly because Kellen was traveling, so I was working out in the house and EJ was not having it. In January I want to get back to working out in the garage for my full 30 minutes. This is my “me” time and I need it!
Complete one e-course // I purchased a few e-courses toward the end of the year and have yet to complete any of them. I want to complete one this month, and I’d like to begin on another one.
Get EJ back to sleeping through the night // EJ has had the sleep regression from hell. He used to go down no problem, would maybe fuss for a few minutes, then be out for at least 8-9 hours. But since about November he has not wanted to go down at all, and he’s been waking up usually twice a night. I am so tired! Something has to give and he’s not outgrowing it, so a few nights ago we started re-sleep training him. It’s so hard, but I know it will get better soon.
Meal prep // Another thing that fell by the wayside the last 2 months of the year. I honestly find no reason to meal prep when Kellen is on travel. I eat so little compared to him, and I’m pretty easy when it comes to meals, so I stopped meal prepping. Now that he will be home more we’re going to start our clean eating meal prep again.
Get back to a good routine // With the new year comes all the daily activities. I once again become a chauffeur to a 5 year old; taking her to school, gymnastics, dance twice a week, swim, and more. I moved a few of her activities around, so I need to get us used to the new schedule, as well as get my work schedule back in line. It will probably take a week or two, but we’ll be back into a rhythm in no time.
I think that’s good for the first month of the year. I usually like to hit the ground running, but I think this month I’m going to ease back into things instead. I’ve realized that with two kids my expectations are lower than they used to be, ha!
What is one goal you have for January?
Can’t wait to hear what you think of the e-courses – I have a few I want to sign up for but haven’t pulled it off yet! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
We are ready for a new routine too! Sometimes I like the craziness of the holidays but I need some routine back – normal wake up times, bed times, etc. We did the same for Christmas! Drive around to see lights and took 2 of the kids to see Zoolights! 🙂
I think it’s so important to set goals and write them down. I’m definitely seeing a trend of everyone wanting to slow down and focus on their health for the upcoming New Year (me included!)
Those sound like great goals! I’d love to get everything ready and set for baby since he’s due the beginning of February. I actually made my list and I’ve been checking things off, so that’s a good start! Good luck this month!
Will you be sharing your new work out schedule/goals? I’m currently trying to mix mine up. I miss sports and might join the London Rowing Club again, which means I don’t have to do a proper gym thing over the weekend. Need something to change things up!
Get it girl!
I’m kind of glad that break is over. Oops. Did I say that out loud? Great goals, as always!
Oh I hope EJ starts sleeping better for you. It’s so hard when you aren’t getting enough sleep. I love that you are doing e-courses.
