5 Things To Do Every Morning To Stay Healthy

March 21, 2016

Do these 5 things every morning to stay healthy and you’ll see a huge change in your day.

I’ve written about my morning routine a few times, and my favorite morning rituals to improve your day.  Obviously mornings are super important to me.  Starting my day off on the right foot really helps me have a successful day overall.  Doing a few things each morning can also help improve your level of health.  If you’re not a morning person but want to be, try including these 5 things every morning to stay healthy.

Stretch // I stretch every morning.  First I write in my journal, then I stretch while I read a book or catch up on social media or blog reading.  Spending 5-10 minutes quietly stretching helps loosen up my body and gives me time to really focus on myself and how I’m feeling.  Plus it just feels so darn good!

Drink a full glass of water // Preferably with lemon (or citrus essential oils) in it.  I’ve also heard people say to drink a glass of warm water.  Whether you choose warm, cold, with lemon or just plain, drinking water first thing in the morning helps bring your body out of the sleep state that it just spent 7+ hours in.  It gets our digestive systems started and also helps rid our bodies of toxins that can build up overnight while we sleep.

Spend time in the quiet // This is my journaling time.  Taking a few minutes to enjoy the quiet before you look at your phone, turn on the blaring lights and plow full steam into your day can help your body to better transition from sleep to awake.

Take vitamins // Most of my vitamins I take in the morning.  If you take them at the same time every day it will become routine and you won’t forget.  Vitamins and supplements are so important for our health, especially if we aren’t getting enough nutrition through our food.

Apply moisturizer with sunscreen // I can’t stress this enough (and I know I’m not alone), don’t leave home without sunscreen on your face, neck, arms, hands; any area that will be exposed to the sun, but especially your face and neck.  Your face is the first thing people see and I love when people say I don’t look my age.  It’s a huge compliment.  I was a bathing beauty as a teenager and now I’m working hard to repair the damage I did to my skin.  Always look for a moisturizer with at least an SPF 15, but preferably SPF 30.

It’s not a lot, but doing these few things every morning to stay healthy will really enhance your life.

What is something you do each morning to keep your body and mind healthy?

Drinking lemon water in the mornings is something I’ve starting doing in the past year or so, and it’s amazed me at how much better it’s made me feel!

I just wrote a really long comment, but it wouldn’t let me post… but anyway I love all of these tips- I always go straight for the coffee as soon as I’m awake and I really want to start eating first or at least having a full glass of water with lemon. I also love the idea to stretch, I’ve been having neck/shoulder tension and I’m sure a bit of stretching first thing in the morning would help more than I realize.

Yes! Water first thing in the morning is so hard for me to drink but I just get it out of the way and it really is a great way to flush your system in the am.

Yes to all! I never wear lotion and I guess I assume since I am in an office all day that SPF doesn’t matter, even though I agree that it’s a must when I am in the sun all day.

I’m trying to be better about drinking a glass of water before my first cup of coffee. Someone said it helps eliminate the coffee jitters, since you have something else running through your body besides the coffee. I need to add some lemon to mine. I love the idea, but have yet to try it.

Yes to drinking a glass of water right away! I tell myself that I need to polish off a glass before I get my cup of coffee. Now, I’m also up twice in the night and drink 28oz total so it’s not as necessary, but it’s still a great practice! And I also am a huge fan of applying some coconut oil on my face in the morning too. Great tips!

Love these tips – I’ve been making sure I drink enough water every day, so I’m not allowed to have my breakfast before having my water bottle. I’m going to start adding lemon to it, too! Also, why did I stop taking my vitamin?? Thanks for the reminder.

Yes! I can’t wait to get into a routine. Today is my first official day to try this SAHM thing. I’m sick though (boo) so I’m not too motivated. You did just remind me to go take my vitamin though! #5…done! I’ve done that every day for many many years. I know I’m prone to skin damage!

These are awesome tips! I have been trying to wake up before the kids every day and have some quiet time before I start trying to wrangle them, and it makes a big difference! And I totally agree on the water and the moisturizer with sunscreen! We are moving to Texas in May so I know those two things will definitely be important!

I’m kind of glad I waited until 5:20 am to read this post…. because now I can do all of these things! 🙂

    Great tips!
I enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, but about a year ago I started having a glass of water first. I find this is a great way to make sure you get enough water each day!

    Here are my questions….
    1) what vitamins/supplements are you taking?
    2) what kind of sunscreen you pot on your face? I haven’t found one that doesn’t leave mine feeling and looking greasy.

    Thanks.
