Little A’s Christmas tree

December 15, 2014

Since Little A was born, I’d been waiting for her to be old enough to have a tree in her room.  Growing up, my brother and I both had 4 1/2 foot trees in our rooms.  My mom decorated my brother’s and I did my own of course.  I spent hours decorating my tree; taking each ornament out of the package carefully, looking at my favorites for the longest time.  I cherished those ornaments and took special care of them year after year.

So this year, when it was time to break out the Christmas decorations, I knew it was the year for Little A to get a tree in her room.

Sorry the photos aren’t so clear. I had a little one pulling on my arm the whole time.

My mom couldn’t find my tree, but she still had my brothers; which makes this tree even more special. We brought the boxes of my old ornaments up to her room and she started looking through them. Some of these ornaments are almost 30 years old.

I did the garland and then Little A and I started putting the ornaments on.  She picked out her favorites, claiming, “This one is so beautiful.  It’s so gorgeous!”  And I told her which ones were my favorite.  She admired them as she hung them on the tree.  She asked questions if she wasn’t familiar with a particular one and I told her stories about my favorite ornaments.  Some of my favorites seem to be her favorites as well.

This had to be one of my favorite moments from the year.  Passing these ornaments and traditions onto my little girl means so much to me.  I thank my mom so much for all the work, thought and love she put into creating these wonderful memories for me that I’m able to share with my own family now.

RELATED  Merry Christmas!

Little A has been so good not to disturb the ornaments.  Well, most of them. 🙂  She will sit and admire the tree as I once did when I was little.

We have lots of family traditions and memories that we’re enjoying passing down to Little A.  But this tree is by far my favorite.

Question of the day: Do you have any special Christmas memories that you’re passing onto your kids, or would like to some day? I’d love to hear them!

Happy Monday friends!

It was so fun. I love seeing her little face when she looks at the ornaments. She loves them. 🙂

Oh my gosh, what a fun tradition! I bet she loves having that in her room. On Christmas Eve, my mom would make up a bed underneath the Christmas tree and my sister and I would sleep there, trying to catch Santa in the act. I still have no idea how my mom snuck the presents in our stockings without waking us!

    • Tiffany says: December 15, 2014 at 9:50 am

She totally loves having her own tree. That is so adorable what your mom did for you guys! I wouldn’t have been able to sleep!

That is one special tree for sure. My heart melts that you are able to pass this down to your daughter. So sweet!

    • Tiffany says: December 15, 2014 at 9:52 am

It’s my tradition and my heart melts too Jenny. I love reading to her next to the tree each night before bed. 🙂

That is seriously so so sweet!
Special ornaments were always big in my family. Since John and I have dated, I’ve made a special ornament each year. I plan to continue this, and one day incorporate our children into the ornament-making. I made ornaments with my mom when I was a kid and I have the best memories of it!
Every Christmas morning, we would wake up, see what Santa brought, and make “little smokies pig in the blankets”. It’s a tradition I always love and I’ll continue that for my little family forever.

Oh how fun Jaelan! I love making ornaments! Oh little smokies! Love those! Such good memories you have as well!

This tree is absolutely perfect and precious. What a wonderful tradition and I love all the pink. Truly a girl’s tree. We do advent calendars and acts of service that I want to continue on with my little guy.

    • Tiffany says: December 15, 2014 at 12:19 pm

Thanks so much Jess! Love the acts of service. We adopt a family or a few kids each year as well, which we love. I’ve been slacking on the advent this year, but such a fun tradition!

Thanks Kelli. I do love that she is enjoying having a tree in her room. 🙂

What a lovely Christmas memory Tiffany. I love that you’re passing this on to Little A too.

We started a lot of our own traditions with the girls… for instance every year they pick out a holiday ornament from the store to add to the tree. This year’s was Anna from Frozen. Our advent calendars (opening a Christmas book every day and adding a link to the Christmas chain are other special traditions).

My girls have trees in their rooms too (except their trees are 1 1/2 feet tall).

Thanks so much for sharing. I love Little A’s tree and your keepsake decorations.
    xoxo

Aw, I love those traditions Jennifer. I add a new ornament to our big tree each year too. And I love the Christmas chain! Super cute idea for kids!

Thanks for your sweet comments. 🙂
      xoxo

I truly believe it’s the traditions that “stick” more than the gifts. You’re creating a beautiful memory here for Little A — one I’m sure she’ll want to pass down to her own children some day.

Thanks for sharing at the #CHRISTMASbloghop!

Wishing you a lovely weekend and a very Merry Christmas.
        xoxo

Thanks Jennifer. I do love creating memories. I think they are the most important part of the holidays.
          Happy Sunday!
          xoxo

What a cool tradition! Which tree does Santa visit?

I’m still trying to figure out what exactly our traditions will be. My little one is only 1, so luckily I have a little bit of time to figure it out! She is obsessed with the Christmas tree though!

    • Tiffany says: December 15, 2014 at 9:50 pm

He visits the big tree, but it would be pretty cute if he left a little something under her tree wouldn’t it. Maybe I’ll do that. 🙂
She sort of understood Christmas last year (age 2) but definitely gets it this year. Although that doesn’t help her behavior. 🙂

What a gorgeous tree and fun tradition! How special it must be for your mom to see you pass this on, too!

    • Tiffany says: December 18, 2014 at 10:47 pm

Thank you so much! My mom definitely loves that I’ve kept everything. We’re big on traditions.

Her tree is gorgeous- so special to pass down all of your favorite ornaments, and it must be so cool for her to have her very own tree 🙂

    • Tiffany says: December 22, 2014 at 11:51 am

Thanks Carly. She loves having her own tree. She’s had some grabby hands these last few days, but overall she’s done really well with it. 🙂
