Over the years I’ve given a wide variety of gifts. From watches and jewelry to toilet paper and paper towels (seriously, that’s what my grandma likes to get for Christmas). But my favorite way to gift is with a gift basket. Whether it be for a baby shower or the holidays, gift baskets just make me happy and I always love taking the time to find items to create the perfect basket.
The thing I love most about gift baskets is that you get to give a variety of items to the person. And it’s so much more fun to open, I think.
I decided to create a basket for my in-laws for Christmas, as they have some great interests that I knew I could shop for at Big Lots. I hadn’t been to Big Lots in quite some time, but I knew they had a wide variety of products to choose from and I would have no problem finding what I needed to create the perfect gift basket.
My father-in-law roasts his own coffee and they both love wine, so I decided to make a wine and coffee pairing basket.
How cute are these holiday mugs?! They remind me of the perfect Christmas sweater and I knew I had to have them in the basket to go with the coffee. (Styles and assortment vary by store.)
I was delighted by the selection I found at Big Lots. Look at all those mugs! Their assortment of holiday items was huge. And they had a great variety of really nice cutting boards as well so I had a hard time narrowing down which would be best for the basket. I was able to find all the non-perishable items I needed (as well as the chocolates) at Big Lots. One stop shopping made easy!
To create the gift basket, I first added some green tissue to the bottom of the basket to add some color and lift the items a bit so you are able to see them better. Then I layered in my items, with the largest items going in the back. The cutting board, cheese and sampler of chocolates to go with the wine, and the Pirouette cookies to go with the coffee (unfortunately the green coffee beans I ordered for the basket didn’t arrive in time but I will add them in later). I also like to wrap the basket in cellophane and tie it with a big, festive ribbon to really make a statement. Nothing says happy holidays like a gift basket with a big red bow on it!
Who else loves to gift baskets as much as I do? I think I gift at least 2 or 3 each holiday season.
I love everything you included in your gift basket! We did that this year for our a few people from a local store and loved how much fun we had putting the baskets together! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
I love baskets too! I just love the variety. I’m impressed with the Big Lots holiday mugs too! Very cute!
I love gift baskets too… and holiday mugs, and wine, and… 😉 Hope you’re having a good week!
What an adorable idea. We might do something like this next year – brilliant and thoughtful!
Also – wine and coffee – is there anything better??
Roasts his own beans?!?!? I need to know all about this and I need a lesson! [client]
I love it when people create their own gift baskets for their friends and families, that way they’re more personalized! When they’re just store-bought and pre-wrapped, I find myself tossing the majority of the contents. Except the wine. I always keep the wine 😉
I love baskets and they’re my favourite gifts to give (and receive).
What a lovely basket you’ve put together.
Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
Wishing you a lovely day.

I might do gift baskets for EVERYONE on my list this year 😀 They’re like stockings—so much fun to dig into and discover all the lovely treats!
It’s just a matter of choosing which items to give to which people that can be the tricky part…
Hi Tiffany, I’ve never given a full on Christmas basket like you’ve made up, but I have made small ones containing nice smellies and toiletries.
They are a great idea for a gift for those people who are tricky to buy for.
