Yesterday my baby girl turned 5 years old. 5. I can’t believe that 5 years ago (and 1 day), at 11:59 PM I became a mommy.
So I thought I’d write a little letter to her because, well, it seems fitting for a 5th birthday.
Dear baby girl,
I cannot believe that you are 5 years old. 5 years ago you made me a mommy and I felt a love I’d never felt before. You were so tiny that I couldn’t believe my eyes. My little 6 pound bundle of joy. And boy did you let us know that you had arrived. You’ve had a set of lungs on you since day one. I called you my little pterodactyl. And to this day you still have a set of lungs that rival Janis Joplin’s scream.
From day one we knew you were something special. You were pretty on track with your development until about 18 months, when you started speaking in full sentences. From that moment on we knew you were going to give us a run for our money. And we have been running ever since.
Two was a great age. Everyone says the terrible twos are hard, but I loved two. You were inquisitive, funny and so kind and loving. Three was when things got hard. The threenager stage was in full effect and my goodness did you have an attitude. Three was when you started to show your strong, opinionated personality. You know what you want and will negotiate for hours to get it. Even though you want to be a veterinarian I think you’d make a great lawyer. But boy were you funny. And you are still making us laugh every day.
Four brought some of the biggest changes. You became a big sister. And I saw another side of you that made my heart burst and shed tears of joy almost daily.
The love you have for your brother is something that I couldn’t have ever imagined. You love him with your whole heart and soul. I know it was hard to share mommy at first, but you handled it so well. I see how you look at your brother and I just can’t imagine life without you both.
And now you’re 5. We don’t always see eye to eye, you and me. Even at 5 you have the mind of someone much older than you are. You are strong willed, quick whited and full of life. I swear you should be an actress because you know how to bring the drama girlfriend. But at the end of the day you are my girl and I feel like the luckiest mom in the world that you are my daughter.
From the moment you made me a mama, I was changed. Thank you for letting me kiss your boo boos, braid your hair and snuggle you to sleep at night. You are my girl, my best friend, my daughter. I love you Audrey Grace.
Love,
Your Mama
Oooooooh so emotional!! I loved this letter, and my goodness, she was a perfect newborn. I love that picture. She will love having this to read in the future : )
Aww… such a sweet letter, and what a beautiful girl you have! You are blessed with a wonderful family! And 5 is such a fun age! Enjoy! 🙂
Aww I love it! Happy belated birthday Little A!!! How was the mermaid party??
Happy happy birthday to Little A! The picture of her holding EJ is the sweetest ever.
What a sweet letter. Time goes so quickly. A is so full of zest. I hope she keeps that.
Such a sweet post to your girl! I can’t believe she’s 5!! Time goes WAY too fast!
Full sentences at 18 months, wow! Girls are just so much more advanced than boys… 😉 And isn’t it funny how babies are born and they start to show their personality RIGHT away? Even at a few hours old, they are who they are and they show it. Happy Birthday A!
Such a beautiful post Tiffany. She is precious — as is E. Such a beautiful family… and I feel like I’ve been there watching a lot of these transitions A and your family went through. It made me a little emotional too.
Wishing your darling girl a very happy birthday.
xoxo
This is perfect 🙂 I have a little journal where I write things like this to my kids. You for sure need to save this and give it to her when she’s older!
I love seeing her interact with her brother. My brother was born when I was 4.5 years old and definitely had the same sassy personality as her haha. I actually was telling my mom about A and my mom literally said, “she’s the all-American version of you” haha. Also, loved A’s and EJ’s pole dancing snap, siblings that pole dance together haha <3 Happy birthday, A! Stay chic and sassy xx
