DIY Organized Jewelry Board

October 24, 2013

I’ve been looking for a way to organize and store all of my necklaces for some time now.  They used to reside in my jewelry box, but would always get twisted and tangled in there and it would take me what seemed like forever to get them undone.

I didn’t want to spend a boat load of money on something to keep them organized, but I wanted something pretty too!  So I picked up a cork board and this fabulous leopard print at Hobby Lobby.  The cork board was on sale already and I had a 40% off coupon for the fabric so in all I think I spent less than $12 on this project.

What you’ll need:
* Cork board of whatever size you’d like
* 1-1/2 yards of fabric (depending on the size board you choose)
* Staple gun and staples
* Thumb tacks for hanging necklaces

First, you’ll want to cut your fabric so there’s about an inch or so outside the edge of the board.  Enough to fold over the back to staple into the wood frame.

Lay the cork board cork side down and fold the fabric over the back and pull it tight:

Staple the fabric into the wood frame of the cork board.  Make sure you get it into the frame and not the board.

Staple all four sides, making sure to pull the fabric tight while you staple.

When you’re done it will look like this:

Nothing too pretty or fancy.  That doesn’t matter since you won’t see the back once you hang it.

I had the clear thumb tacks on hand so I just grabbed those, but I may try to find some bright pink ones for a pop of color against the black, grey and white.

The love necklace is my new favorite.  Its simple and delicate and adds just a little sparkle.

Super easy and now no more tangled mess.

How do you organize your necklaces?  Any good deals you’ve found for organizing jewelry?

    Sometimes making things is better than buying them because you could make things exactly like you want them. This is great!
